Admission process USA

The Admission process is very important as it can directly affect your chances of being accepted to study in Australia. Mentioned below are the Entry Requirements and the Application Procedure to give a clear picture of what it takes to get to the best universities in Australia.

Entry Requirements

  • Entry Requirements

Before applying for admission, make sure that all the documents mentioned below are included in your application. Each university / department has its own admission requirements depending upon the course of study selected. It is essential to arm yourself with adequate information on necessary paperwork and details needed for under graduate and post graduate courses.

  • Academic Records

Transcripts or official records of your previous academic qualifications are crucial for your application. Also full details of your education including your course subjects and grades are required in the applications.

  • Standardised tests

To be eligible for admission to a U.S. university, you must meet certain minimum entry requirements. like GRE (Graduate Record Examination) / GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test): For admission to graduate courses in the US, you will be required to take either the GRE or GMAT. While the GRE score is required for all non-management masters/ graduate courses; the GMAT score is required for pursuing management programmes such as MBA. Certain US universities may even demand the IELTS exam i.e. International English Language Testing System. However, not all universities make it mandatory. It is recommended that you take the relevant exam to further increase the chances of admission especially if you are keen on applying for a scholarship as well.

  • Letter Of Recommendation

This is one of the significant elements of the student’s application. Letters of reference or recommendation should present a truthful display of abilities, capabilities and strengths. A recommendation letter is a signed statement from a person who knows you well professionally or has taught you in a subject that is related to the course you are applying to. The universities to which you are applying will not only assess the length of the experience but also the depth of the same.

  • Statement Of Purpose and Resumes

The personal essays, and/or statement of purpose, play a very important role in the process of evaluating your application for both admission as well as financial aid because it gives the faculty assessing your application their most significant impression of you as an individual. SOP should outline the students plan for future and should be very well organized including the educational background and experience for the chosen course, personal interests and career goals. In addition to the SOP a good resume as well projects a positive image.

  • Affidavit of Financial Support

You will need to prepare an Affidavit of Financial Support and Bank Statement in order to qualify for a student visa. The universities normally require the same. In short, you need to prove that you can pay the cost of attending your college, and the cost of living while in the US. This should basically be supported with bank statement showing you have adequate funds to finance your studies in the US.

Application Process

Planning ahead gives you sufficient time to make successful applications to the colleges of your choice especially if you want to apply for scholarships. Moreover, generally the deadlines for scholarships are earlier than the university ones. Normally there are two major academic sessions i.e. fall intakes in August-September or spring intakes i.e. January-March. It is to be noted that the time frame mentioned is to be counted after all the academic documents, standardized test results; other certificates etc have been obtained.

Step 1: Identifying the course of Study and applying to the right university.

Compared to other countries, admission procedures of US universities, schools, colleges and institutes are highly competitive for international students. The procedure is even more competitive in the top educational institutes. Universities and colleges have their own selection criteria and decide which student meets those criteria hence you must apply well in advance to each college and university of your interest separately.

Step 2: Filling the Application form and Returning the same by the specified due date.

The relevant application form needs to be submitted. All students need to go through the instructions thoroughly and submit all sections of the form accurately.
We need to then send the completed application form with the information outlined below:

  • Application Form
  • Application Fee
  • Proof of English proficiency test
  • Affidavit of Financial Support SOP
  • High School Transcript
  • Admission Test Scores
  • Recommendation Letter
  • Portfolio (If applied for courses like fashion, music, art, design etc)

Step 3: Processing your application

Our Counselors will log your application. The university will then make a decision based on the all the information you have given and either of the following could take place :-

  • Make an unconditional offer of a place on your chosen course: you meet all the necessary entry criteria and the place will be held until you tell us you wish to accept our offer or not.
  • Make you a conditional offer of a place: we will hold a place for you but you still have to meet some of the entry criteria, such as achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 or passing your current course.
  • Offer you an alternative course: you do not qualify for the course you originally applied for but you do qualify for a different one.
  • Ask you for further information: we will not be able to make a decision if there is insufficient or incomplete information in your application – you should try to get this information to us as soon as you can.

We try to process all applications within two to three weeks and issue a letter to you as soon as possible. Please bear in mind, however, that postal services vary and some letters will take longer to reach certain parts of the world. Where possible, we will send an email or text message to acknowledge your application and we will send letters to you by courier for speed and security.

Step 4: After you have been made an offer

If your application is successful, you will need to submit further forms, choose your accommodation and pay a deposit. We make sure you cover everything. And of course, if you have any queries at any stage,v we are always here to help.

Step 5: Receiving the I – 20

Once the university is satisfied that apart from fulfilling the admission requirements, the student or his sponsor has sufficient funds to pay for the studies and living expenses, the I-20 is issued in around 2-3 weeks. Form I-20 is a United States Department of Homeland Security document issued by colleges, universities that provide supporting information for the issuance of a student Visa (F1) at United States Embassy or Consulate in their home country.

Step 6: Apply for your student visa

International students must have a student visa to study in United States of America. Before applying for your student visa you must have proof of enrolment and may need to pay some of your tuition fees. This varies depending on the university you select. Documents required are:

  • Valid Passport
  • One Passport size photograph (Black and White or Colour)
  • A Non-immigrant Visa Application (Form 156) available from the Consular section.
  • Form I-20 executed by the authorizing official of institution concerned, signed by the applicant.
  • Evidence of financial ability to cover the costs of the education and maintenance involved
  • Visa fee to be paid in Indian Rupees by Bank Draft
